Team Mentors and Volunteers

John DiRenzo

It's exciting to bring a "hands-on" educational experience to our students. They also educate us in many ways. The USFIRST robotics program fortifies the values of science and technology in every participant whether a student or mentor.

I have had a love for science and technology for many years. As an employee of Fairchild Semiconductor and no children of my own old enough to be involved in the program, I decided to mentor the...

Build something! Anyone can change a light bulb -- try making one. It’s easy, right?

People need to know that change only happens when you make it happen. After 14 years of doing FIRST the program has made me realize that if you don’t do it yourself you will have to work twice as hard getting someone else to do it for you. My only wish is to have someone to replace me when I am done with the program. It will be a sad day if the program does not continue. I have enjoyed the last 14...

I have been a volunteer / mentor for Team 133 for the past 14 years.  My 3 children have all participated in the program. Heather, class of 1999; Tania, class of 2000; and Eric, class of 2004.  My responsibilities have been to assist and guide students in various tasks such as fund-raising, planning the trip for competition, making hotel reservations, food preparation etc.  Also to work behind the scenes assisting the co-advisers,...

Terri DiRenzo

I have been helping organize the team for over 10 years. I help students and mentors on the team with a variety of tasks. Some of these tasks include preparing corporate donation and thank you letters, ordering of t-shirts, coordinating and participating in fund-raising events and food preparation during the build season. I have had two daughters go through the program and even though they now have graduated from college, I am still involved with the team. The robotics program is a wonderful...

Connie "The General" Garland

Keeping everything and everyone in line when time is essential. I have been on the team for nine years.  I help with the fund raising, solicit donations and prepare meals during build season.

Ron Garland

I became a member of the team in 2000 because I worked for the the team sponsor -- Eagle Industries. I have had a great time working with the kids. I am a Tool and Die Maker for Eagle Industries and the part maker for the robot. This has really been a great time for me because it gave me the chance to work with different metals than I do in tool and die making.

Josiah Plummer

I started in 2003 as a member and after I graduated high school I stayed on the team as a mentor for programming.

Eleanor O'Neill

I've been a team parent since my kid "Niko" (Casciola) joined in 2007 -- though I've not participated in any way. This year I got drafted to mentor the Web Site Committee since this is what I do for a living. It's a lot of work (and I do a whole lot less than all the other mentors), but a great group of kids and mentors. Robots rock.

Scott Tracy

I'm new to the program, along with my son Isaac. I'm an electrician by trade, and I'm helping with construction and assembly of the robot, as well as learning the use of machine tools like the lathe and the Bridgeport machines. It's been a great experience, working with this group of great kids!!

Ted Goulet

Ted helps out with training the students on the Autodesk Inventor program. He also helps the students with general assembly, testing and brainstorming.
