Team Mentors and Volunteers
This is my second year with the team. My son joined BERT as a freshman in 2009 and I hung around and helped out where ever I could. The opportunity came up at the end of the 2009-2010 season for some new folks to run the team. Although I hadn't even entertained the thought of taking it over, I was strongly convinced to do this by the former leadership. So now I am an advisor along with Scott Tracy. It is very rewarding helping out the students. It's great to see them come up with ideas when...
This is my second year with the program. The previous mentors retired from the program at the end of last season, and I decided, along with Ted Goulet, to take over as mentors for this season. I'm excited about the challenges of mentoring BERT! We have a terriffic team this year and it's going to be fun to work with them on this year's Game!!
It's exciting to bring a "hands-on" educational experience to our students. They also educate us in many ways. The USFIRST robotics program fortifies the values of science and technology in every participant whether a student or mentor.
I have had a love for science and technology for many years. As an employee of Fairchild Semiconductor and no children of my own old enough to be involved in the program, I decided to help mentor...
I have been helping organize the team for over 10 years. I help students and mentors on the team with a variety of tasks. Some of these tasks include preparing corporate donation and thank you letters, ordering of t-shirts, coordinating and participating in fund-raising events and food preparation during the build season. I have had two daughters go through the program and even though they now have graduated from college, I am still involved with the team. The robotics program is a wonderful...
Steve works for Lanco Assembly Systems as a designer, trainer, and often on the mechanical assembly floor. He has worked for several years helping robotics programs at various schools. This is his first year "officially" helping the BERT team, although he has known many of the participants for years. He is very happy to be part of BERT's 2011 endeavor.
This is my first year as a Parent Helper with the Bonny Eagle Robotics Team. I'm looking forward to working with the students and mentors.
Build something! Anyone can change a light bulb -- try making one. It’s easy, right?
People need to know that change only happens when you make it happen. After 14 years of doing FIRST the program has made me realize that if you don’t do it yourself you will have to work twice as hard getting someone else to do it for you. My only wish is to have someone to replace me when I am done with the program. It will be a sad day if the program does not continue. I have enjoyed the last 14...
Malinda became a mentor in the 2010-2011 season, when her husband Ted became an advisor. She does all behind the scenes organization and accounting and keeping the team on budget. She helps with other fundraising projects such as sponsor letters, bottle drives, cookie dough and bake sales. She also takes care of making hotel reservations, ordering of supplies and spirit committee items, such as t-shirts, hats, and giveaways.
I had been a volunteer / mentor for Team 133 for the past 14 years. My 3 children have all participated in the program. Heather, class of 1999; Tania, class of 2000; and Eric, class of 2004. My responsibilities had been to assist and guide students in various tasks such as fund-raising, planning the trip for competition, making hotel reservations, food preparation etc. Also to work behind the scenes assisting the co-advisers,...
I started in 2003 as a member and after I graduated high school I stayed on the team as a mentor for programming.
