John DiRenzo

It's exciting to bring a "hands-on" educational experience to our students. They also educate us in many ways. The USFIRST robotics program fortifies the values of science and technology in every participant whether a student or mentor.

I have had a love for science and technology for many years. As an employee of Fairchild Semiconductor and no children of my own old enough to be involved in the program, I decided to mentor the South Portland Robotics Team, Team 58. I stayed with the South Portland team until my oldest daughter decided to join the Bonny Eagle High School Robotics Team during the 98-99 seasons. My youngest daughter joined the team in the fall of 2001 spending all four years of her high school experience as part of the team. Five years later, with a total career of thirteen years, I am still co-advising the team.

This program gives students more than just an experience in science and technology. It also teaches them invaluable life skills that will stay with them throughout their lives and careers.
